Mice were randomized into four groups:
• Group 1: no tumour inducer (NNK-) and no resveratrol (RES-), represents the number of spontaneous tumours.
• Group 2: mice induced by the carcinogen (NNK+) and no resveratrol (RES-), represents the maximum number of tumours.
• Group 3: mice induced by the carcinogen (NNK+) and treatment with resveratrol (RES+), in comparison with group 2, represents the number of tumours in mice treated with resveratrol. Resveratrol treatment reduced tumour multiplicity by about 30% in NNK-induced mice.
• Group 4: no tumour inducer (NNK-) and treatment with resveratrol (RES+), in comparison with group 1, represents the number of spontaneous tumours in mice treated with resveratrol.
