Image obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope of the Cosmic Snake, a galaxy more than 8 billion light-years away and deformed by the phenomenon of the gravitational lensing (left). The yellow contours show the carbon monoxide emission observed with the ALMA interferometer. In the right panel, it is a zoom on the southern part of the Cosmic Snake showing in three dimensions the molecular clouds detected at the unprecedented resolution of 90 light-years in a distant galaxy, typical of a Milky Way progenitor.
